Welcome to Big Fish Environmental, L.L.C....
on the cutting edge of domestic septage treatment

Big Fish Environmental, L.L.C. (Big Fish) provides a new, low-cost, environmentally sound solution for processing septic tank sludge (septage) from suburban and rural developments without the use of harsh chemicals, but rather products of mother nature: oxygen, micro organisms, lemon juice and lime. Instead of direct land application of untreated waste, Big Fish processes the material using aerobic micro organism technology in a fully contained, odorless facility, resulting in an effluent capable of going directly to a municipal wastewater treatment facility for final treatment and/or safe discharge to the environment, thus protecting our ground water and surface water natural resource.

Our new screw press operation, scheduled for July 2007, will enhance the Big Fish process even further.

Licensed by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), Big Fish Environmental is the only organization--public or private--to address the issue of septage treatment and disposal using our unique technology, and now serves Charlevoix, Southern Emmet and Otsego counties. Big Fish also contracts with other haulers outside of these areas.

On December 2, 2005, Big Fish Environmental opened its doors to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of our facility. Since then, Big Fish has consistently removed 90+ % of the high-strength septage waste pollutants as measured by BOD, TSS, Total P and Ammonia-N.

Big Fish is a member of the National Association of Wastewater Transporters, Inc. (NAWT), the National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA), and the Consortium of Institutes for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment (CIDWT).
